Are MOOCs are a game changer or just a passing fad? RUSC, the UOC’s journal on e‑learning, has published a new issue (Vol 12, No 1) with a special section on the future of massive open online courses (MOOCs). This issue also includes five articles analysing the links between education and technology. These articles cover the democratization of contents, a comparative study of open access public policies in Argentina and Brazil, mobile learning, and the use Facebook at Mexican universities.

Call open

RUSC has opened a new call for papers for the special section to be published in the January 2016 issue. Articles should be on one of the following subjects: application or materialization of specific classical and contemporary theories of leadership and management in open and distance education; key leadership skills, characteristics or behaviours for the next generation of distance education leaders; management and development of the unique cultural aspects of leadership in developing countries, and in Latin and South America, Africa and Asia in particular; the institutional framework for creating “communities of innovation” in higher education institutions to collaborate with schools, businesses and government and community agencies; shared leadership models for multinational distance education alliances, institutions and organizations; visionary approaches to managing and directing institutional and organizational change; policies and planning to develop open and distance education, and reconceptualization of a wider vision of innovation beyond just technology. The deadline for submitting articles is 30 June 2015.
