The UOC organizes first Spin UOC to showcase projects that could be transferred to society

Spin UOC
30/05/2013
The University opens free registration to an event involving researchers, businesses, institutions and scientific communicators

The first Spin UOC is to be held on 13 June, from 7 to 9 pm, at the former Estrella Damm Brewery at Rosselló 515, Barcelona. Organized by the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia, UOC) Alumni network and Research and Transfer Support Office (OSRT), the event will include short and creative presentations on the University's transferable projects and the people at the institution.

The aim is to create links between the projects and initiatives arising from the UOC's innovation activities and local business and society. Alongside the presentations, Spin UOC will also have a networking forum where attendees can chat and share experiences with the speakers. The event aims to support collaboration and transfer as catalysts to enrich society and establish new business models based on the UOC's R&D activities and its students' innovative projects.

An inventive way of presenting
The event is to use the Pecha Kucha style of presentation, a short and creative format that has been a great success as a way of showcasing different projects in a limited amount of time in a flexible way that is easy for a non-specialist audience to understand.

The programme covers a wide range of subjects linked to the research and innovation at the UOC and its departments, from language-learning projects to applications offering added value to tourism, or research into geo-location systems and the role of wireless networks in the cities of the future. All these projects will be presented by UOC researchers, or current or former students.

The event will be opened by UOC President Josep A. Planell and hosted by Christian Serrano. There will also be a music from the Ol’Green choir.

Registration
Registration for Spin UOC is free. If you wish to attend, you need to fill in the form by 7 June.

During the breaks, there will be snacks and Estrella Damm beer.

Likewise, all those attending are invited to visit the permanent exhibition on the company’s history housed in the same building.
