Assessment for your particular programme

Set out below you'll find the assessment system for your particular programme, but, given that there is no standard assessment model for our courses, we'd advise you to check each individual course plan for specific information:

• Bachelor's degree programmes: some courses can be passed through continuous assessment only, while others may require a final assessment test as well. More information at Procedures / Assessment / The UOC assessment system.
• Master's degree, lifelong learning programme, specialization diplomas or expert diplomas: normally, courses are passed via a combination of continuous assessment and a final project. More information at Procedures / Assessment / The UOC assessment system.
• Centre for Modern Languages: courses are passed via a combination of continuous assessment and a final test. More information at Procedures / Assessment / The UOC assessment system.
• Professional courses: courses are passed via a combination of continuous assessment and a final project. More information at Procedures / Assessment.
• Vocational training: courses are passed via a combination of continuous assessment of the different projects and/or seminars and a validation test. More information at Procedures / Assessment.

For university qualifications, please note that you have four chances to pass each course (once per semester). If, after four attempts, you have not managed to pass a course, you can still apply for authorization to stay and continue studying at the UOC.

To ensure high standards and quality throughout the assessment process, the university takes measures to ensure the identity of students and the originality of the work they submit. Rigour in the assessment process is critical to maintaining the prestige and quality of UOC programmes.

What does continuous assessment consist of?

Continuous assessment entails the carrying out and passing of continuous assessment activities or challenges. To ensure continuous assessment has been properly completed, you'll need to carry out and submit the number of activities established in the corresponding course plan.

• At the start of the semester, you'll find the activities posted in each course's classroom. The activities' texts themselves will explain what you have to do.
• You have to submit them to the Assessment section of the classroom on the dates marked in the calendar.
• Although each continuous assessment activity is given a mark, you will also receive a final continuous assessment mark at the end of the semester. 

The continuous assessment may include curricular internships, which are aimed at putting the theoretical knowledge acquired in the academic training into practice.

Are there final exams at the UOC?

Broadly speaking, there are three main assessment models at the UOC:

There isn't one single programme or assessment model for all our courses. There are some courses that can be passed only with continuous assessment, while in others, the continuous assessment is complemented by a final assessment test.

What are the final assessment tests like?

There are two types of final assessment tests:

• Synthesis tests, which complement your final continuous assessment mark.
• Exams, which assess everything you've learned during the course. You'll have to take an exam if you decide not to follow the continuous assessment process or don't pass it.
