Intensive use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) has transformed our social and economic environment. This transformation has led to an evolution in what we measure and analyse. The ease of access to large sources of information (big data) almost in real time, the use of new analysis techniques and the transformation of the old ones, or the availability of new communication tools that provide new ways to present statistical data have led to new ways of handling statistics.
The StatistICTs Conference organized by the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (Open University of Catalonia, UOC), a benchmark institution in the use of ICTs for university education, aims to provide information on all these transformations. Coincidentally, 2013 is also the International Year of Statistics. A number of specialists from the professional and academic world will debate these questions, providing a distinctly applied perspective on the new ways of handling statistics using ICTs.
This conference is being organized by the UOC in collaboration with the Catalan Statistical Society (SCE) and the Catalan Institute of Statistics (IDESCAT).
