162 abstracts from the University?s research and innovation projects submitted

The First UOC International Research Symposium is to be held on 18 December from 9 am to 6 pm at Espai Pujades 350 (Carrer Pujades 350, Barcelona). The symposium is to offer the chance to bring together and showcase the research and innovation activities being developed at the University. The call for abstracts was opened last October inviting the University’s research projects to present their work in public. A total of 162 abstracts have been submitted. The research and innovation activities will be showcased in posters to be on display at the venue. The symposium’s Assessment Committee has selected 50 projects to be presented by one of their members in a three-minute flash presentation. The event is to be opened by Andreu Mas Colell, the Catalan Minister for the Economy and Knowledge and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.

Alongside being able to find out more about the UOC’s research, development and innovation activities through the flash presentations and posters, the event will also involve a roundtable discussion on the future of universities. The discussion is to be moderated by UOC President Dr Josep A. Planell and involve Dr Manuel Castells, member of the UOC’s Scientific Commission, Dr Helga Nowotny, Professor Emerita of Social Studies of Science at ETH Zurich and a founding member of the European Research Council, Dr Brenda Gourley, Vice-Chancellor and CEO of the Open University in the United Kingdom from 2002 to 2009, and Dr Martin Carnoy, Vida Jacks Professor of Education at Stanford University’s School of Education.
