The Innovate4Cities Conference will be an international gathering at the nexus of cities, climate change science and innovation which will be held during 11 to 15 October. This groundbreaking meeting, co-hosted by UN-Habitat and the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM), is a global and regional virtual event that promises to bring science and innovation, policy and practice together in one place for a common goal: to encourage cities to take more ambitious and accelerated climate action. It will bring together over 1,000 city leaders, scientists, researchers, innovators, academics, youth and business people to advance pragmatic and action oriented research and science that will help cities reduce their carbon footprint and increase resilience to climate change.
Pastora Martínez Samper, Vice President for Globalization and Cooperation at UOC, will participate in one of the panels of the Conference. Specifically, she will be a panelist in the session on "Connecting the city 's innovation ecosystem towards sustainable development: The case of Barcelona' s Science Diplomacy", which will be held on Wednesday, October 13th, from 15:00 to 16:00. The panel is aimed at local and regional governments, academics and students, representatives of national governments, leaders and public authorities, private sector companies and investors, as well as the international and local media. This panel is organized with the collaboration of the SciTech DiploHub, the Barcelona Science and Technology Diplomacy HUB Bringing. The aim of the panel is bringing together science and innovation, policy and practice to enable cities to take accelerated and more ambitious climate action. Moreover, panelists will talk about promoting the excellence of Barcelona's research institutions, universities and companies and also it will showcase success cases in science, technology and innovation led by the science, technology and innovation ecosystem of Barcelona.
The conference also wants to contribute to the 26th United Nations Congress on Climate Change (COP 26) to be held in November and to the Seventh Special Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (AR7). The event will feature real cases of pioneering cities in using science and innovation as a tool for climate action.
