Workshop on gender stereotypes in science and technology

Researchers from Gender and ICT, an Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3) research group at the UOC, will be holding a workshop on gender stereotypes in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) at the Youth Mobile Festival: Science+Tech Meets Mobile (also known as YoMo), a Mobile World Congress event. The workshop will be held on 1 March at La Farga de L'Hospitalet in Barcelona.

Under the title “All of us can be scientists: breaking stereotypes”, researchers Maria del Carmen Gallego and Efrem Melián will be running a workshop for school-age children to help them learn about important women in the history of science and technology, and break existing gender stereotypes in these professional spheres. What's more, participants will delve into the patterns that cause many women to stay away from STEM professions.

The YoMo festival seeks to inspire young people and highlight professional careers in science and technology through interactive workshops and practical activities. The event will be held from 26 February to 2 March and over twenty-two thousand people, including students aged 8 to 16 and teaching staff, are expected to be in attendance.
