CareNet Seminar: "Practices (cyborg) to learn about the air"

'In the Air Budapest'

"In the Air Budapest"

The Care and Preparedness in the Network Society (CareNet) research group of the IN3 organises a new seminar of their cycle linked to the project H2020 CANDID where they explore the relationship between citizens and sensorization digital technologies within the RRI (self-tracking, citizen science, sensing citizenshop and smart technologies).

This time they have invited Dr. Nerea Calvillo, professor at the University of Warwick, who will talk about "Practices (cyborg) to learn about the air".

Program

Monitoring stations, models, DIY sensors, particles, lichens – a variety of devices and practices create different kinds of air and methods of interacting with them. A comparative study of some of these practices, with a special focus on those carried out by citizens, sheds light on the consequences and potential of different methods of measuring/feeling the air.

Dr. Nerea Calvillo is an architect, researcher and curator. Her doctoral thesis is titled "Sensing Aerópolis" (ETSAM). She was a postdoctoral researcher on the project ESR "Citizen Sense" (Goldsmiths, London), where she explored the possibility of low-cost sensors and citizen science. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies (University of Warwick), where her research explores the relationship between the pollen sensorization, toxic politics and urban ecologies. She is also director of C+ Architects and founder of the collaborative project "In the Air" (see the image above).

The seminar will be held in Spanish.
