Location based services will have an expected market higher than $10.000 million by 2020. This kind of services will allow to estimate the position of a fireman in an emergency and to passively monitor people inside an environment. Also, indoor location will enhance the orientation sense by supporting applications to find people, spaces and services. In this context, researchers from UOC are collaborating with Hospital Parc Taulí to provide indoor localization and guiding patients to the doctor's practice. Guiding people with special needs can be considered another successful case of the application of indoor location in pedestrian navigation. However, indoor location is still in its infancy. In the talk, the different technologies to provide indoor location, real applications and the current trends will be reviewed.
Dr. Joaquín Torres-Sospedra is Computer Engineer and PhD from the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón (Spain). He has worked on different topics related to Artificial Intelligence and Neural Networks. Currently he is a researcher at GEOTEC (Geospatial Technologies Research Group) and the INIT (Institute of New Image Technologies) of the UJI. Nowadays, he has focus his research on indoor positioning and indoor navigation, studying its application in different environments and its combination with GIS and geospatial technologies.
The seminar will be held in English.
